JOYkwondo Training Exercise #6: Battle Cry

Battle Cry

  1. a word or phrase shouted by soldiers going into battle to express solidarity and intimidate the enemy.
  2. a slogan expressing the ideals of people promoting a cause.

Let’s start by getting in a power pose (see power pose training exercise). Wait there until you start feeling the effects of the pose on your mind, and then go ahead and add your Power Smile to the mix. Just stand there smiling and posing, and let the power build up in you until you can’t hold it in anymore. When you’ve reached that point, let some “battle cry” phrases run through your mind and pick your favorite. Pick the phrase that best expresses the amazing power and courage and excitement you are feeling right now.

Commit this feeling to memory, so that when you use your phrase in the future, you’ll trigger your brain to remember how powerful you feel at this moment.

Training Exercise:

This will be a two-part exercise. The first part is to write out one or more of your personal battle cries in the comments section below (and also somewhere in your portfolio). Be sure to use all caps, we really need to hear you. πŸ˜‰ I don’t mind if you drop a cuss word, as long as it gets your point across.

The second part of your homework is to challenge a friend to a game of “Ha Ha”. Start by facing each other and making very focused eye contact. Without smiling, you start it off by saying “Ha”, and then they follow with “Ha Ha”. You continue with “Ha Ha Ha”, and you’ll go back and forth adding one more “Ha” each turn. Do this as long as you guys can without laughing. Bonus: use this game as a method of cheering up someone who’s a little down about something.

Finish your day with a Joy Journal entry and give yourself a pat on the back!
